Free GRE practice test

The graduate admissions test for master's, PhD and many business programmes.

This GRE practice test has the same shape as the real GRE General Test: an Analyze an Issue essay (30 minutes), two Verbal Reasoning sections (12 questions in 18 minutes, then 15 in 23) and two Quantitative Reasoning sections (12 questions in 21 minutes, then 15 in 26), with an on-screen-style calculator allowed in Quant.

Every question is original and uses the official question types: Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence, Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Comparison, multiple choice, select-all and numeric entry. Submit a section to see your score and a worked solution for every question.

How to use this practice test

  1. Sit each section with the timer on, in one go, without notes.
  2. Submit to see how many you got right and which topics cost you marks.
  3. Read the worked solution for every question you missed — and for any you got right by guessing.
  4. Redo the missed questions a few days later without looking at the solutions.
  5. Finish with all sections back to back to practise your stamina and pacing.

How the real GRE is scored

The real GRE reports Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning from 130 to 170 in one-point steps and Analytical Writing from 0 to 6 in half-point steps. This practice test shows how many questions you got right; it does not convert that to the 130–170 scale.

The real GRE is section-level adaptive: how you do on the first Verbal or Quant section sets the difficulty of the second. Here the second section of each measure is a fixed, harder set.

Format checked on ETS: GRE General Test structure on 1 October 2026. Always confirm dates and rules with ETS before you book.
