The GRE General Test costs US$249 in South Korea, the standard fee outside China, with no tax added by ETS. Korea has its own rules: test centres offer the GRE up to three times per month, and you get a full refund if you cancel within seven days of registering, as long as your test is more than four days away.
GRE fee in Korea for 2026
ETS lists US$237.86 for China and US$249 for all other areas of the world, effective 1 August 2026, so test takers in Korea pay US$249. ETS Korea's fee page still shows US$220 in its table, but it carries a note that the General Test fee rises to US$249 from 1 August 2026. Older articles quoting $220 are out of date.
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| GRE General Test (test centre or at home) | US$249 |
| Four score reports chosen on test day | Included |
| Rescheduling | US$55 |
| Changing test centre | US$55 |
| Additional Score Report, per recipient | US$40 |
| Score Review for Analytical Writing | US$60 |
| Score Reinstatement | US$50 |
Tax. ETS's fees include sales, value-added and similar taxes except in a listed group of countries where tax is added at checkout; Korea is not on that list. The Bulletin adds that the final charge includes a non-refundable 4% online service fee. For other countries, see our GRE fee by country table.
Paying in won: cards and KakaoPay
ETS charges in US dollars and doesn't publish a won price. When you pay online, you may be offered the option to pay in the local currency supported by your card issuer or in USD.
- Cards and PayPal: American Express, Diners Club International, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, RuPay Global, UnionPay, Visa and PayPal.
- KakaoPay: ETS accepts Alipay+, which lets you pay in local currency with local e-wallets, and lists KakaoPay for South Korea.
- Not accepted: cash, cheques and money orders.
GRE test centres in Korea
ETS doesn't print a list of Korean centres on its fee or location pages. To see centres and open seats, use the search on ETS's scheduling page and enter your city.
One centre that publishes its own GRE information is the KAEC Testing Center run by the Korean-American Educational Commission (Fulbright Korea) in Seoul. Its page gives:
- Address: 23 Baekbeom-ro 28-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gongdeok Station.
- Centre code: STN13681 for the GRE General Test; registration goes through the ETS website.
- Session time: all listed sessions start at 10:00, and you should arrive at least 30 minutes early.
- Contact: testing@fulbright.or.kr or 02-3275-4000 (press 2), Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:30. For registration, scores and schedule questions, KAEC refers you to ETS.
GRE test dates in Korea
Korea is one of four places where ETS limits centre dates. Its locations page says that in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, the test is available up to three times per month, while in most other regions it runs throughout the year. At-home testing isn't limited in the same way (see below).
KAEC publishes its own session list. For the rest of 2026 it shows these dates:
| Month | Dates (all at 10:00) |
|---|---|
| October 2026 | 4 (Sun), 9 (Fri), 16 (Fri) |
| November 2026 | 1 (Sun), 6 (Fri), 15 (Sun), 29 (Sun) |
| December 2026 | 4 (Fri), 13 (Sun), 18 (Fri), 27 (Sun) |
You can take the GRE once every 21 days, up to five times in a rolling 12 months, and scores arrive 8–10 days after the test. Our GRE test dates guide helps you plan around application deadlines.
Taking the GRE at home in Korea
The at-home GRE is available everywhere the test is normally offered, based on the country of your account address, and ETS says it runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That makes it the most flexible option in Korea if centre dates don't suit you. The fee is the same US$249.
You'll need a Windows or Mac computer (no tablets, Chromebooks or Surface Pro), a movable webcam, a speaker and microphone without a headset, a smartphone or tablet to use as a second camera, and you must verify your ID in the IDVaaS app at least 72 hours before the test. Our GRE at home guide covers the full set-up.
ID for the GRE in Korea
ETS normally requires a physical ID, but some digital IDs are accepted in the Republic of Korea. For Korean citizens testing in Korea, ETS lists a passport, national ID, government-issued driver's licence, state or province ID card, or military ID, and says a digital version of the national ID or driver's licence is also acceptable. Military ID can't be used for the at-home test.
- Foreign nationals in Korea need a valid passport, plus a supplemental English-language ID if the passport isn't in English letters.
- Names must match your ID exactly (excluding accents), or you may not be allowed to test.
See our GRE ID requirements guide for more.
Registering, rescheduling and Korea's refund rule
ETS says people testing in Korea must register online through an ETS account. You can reschedule or cancel online or by contacting GRE Services. Rescheduling costs US$55 and must be done at least four days before the test.
| When you cancel | Refund |
|---|---|
| 0–7 days after registering, with more than 4 days to go | 100% of the test fee |
| 8 or more days after registering, with more than 4 days to go | 50% of the test fee |
| 4 or fewer days before the test, on test day, or after it | No refund |
A full refund is credited to your card in two transactions of 50% each. The general rules are in our GRE cancellation policy guide.
Help in Korea. ETS's GRE Services line for Korea is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: email gre-info@ets.org, phone 1-609-948-8244, or the toll-free number +00308131924 for test takers in Korea.
Sending scores and getting ready
Your fee includes four score reports chosen on test day; after that each costs US$40. To check whether a programme in Korea or abroad is set up to receive GRE scores and find its code, use ETS's approved score recipients search, which you can filter by country. Our guide to ScoreSelect explains which scores to send.
With limited centre dates, a wasted attempt costs more than money. Take a free GRE practice test first, and check what a good GRE score is for your programmes.
